I personally think the best way to wear suspenders is the classic way, instead of wearing them with a t-shirt and Jeans, dress them up. Wear a nice crisp blouse with a collar and some nice dress pants or a pencil skirt. Add a few accessories and you'll look classy and age appropriate.
As for your height, I don't think that's a problem, you should still be able to pull them off. Although your best option would be to wear a great fitting back dress trouser or a dark wash jean, because it'll add the illusion of length to your body.
I totally think you should wear them if you like them, don't worry about what other people think. Sadly alot of young people these days don't appreciate classic items like suspenders. But that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them. I'm a few years older than you and I've been searching for the perfect pair of suspenders.
